Wave

By: Wordless book illustrations: Suzi Lee

Using only two watercolors and without writing any words, the author creates a complete world of play between the little girl and the sea, inviting the child to be amazed, describe what they see, and tell their own personal story with the sea.

Age Group: 5 years

Reflection and exploration, observation and fascination, approaching or hesitation, fear or enthusiasm: These are varied responses and reactions that may differ from one child to another in dealing with new experiences. However, curiosity and the love of exploration remain prominent natural traits in all children. They are lovers of exploration, asking questions, observing, and drawing conclusions. Their skills develop with the presence of a supportive adult who provides them with opportunities, supports them when needed, and transforms their experiences to be joyful and beneficial.

The book invites us to accompany a girl who is exploring the sea, with illustrations that narrate the story. The features in the drawings expand to express amazement and enjoyment of the intricate details. We notice the birds accompanying her, observe the changes in the waves, and reflect on the shapes and images reflected in them. We accompany the mother who supports her daughter to experiment, test, and contemplate safely.
